Oscars Friday #3-The Martian

“I’ve looked at it and no director who’s ever been to space ever goes back to space unless he’s got to do a sequel and then he’s defied it(pointing at Ridley Scott) with The Martian and he says there wasn’t any problem at all.” Danny Boyle(Trainspotting, Slumdog Millionaire, 127 hours…)

Space movies are one of the most difficult movies to make. Only few have had the courage to take them up. Yet, Ridley Scott has repeatedly perfected space movies; Alien, Prometheus and now The Martian. I haven’t seen such a great screenplay in long time. The movie keeps you hooked up all the way to the end. Ridley is not known for humorous movies but this time his experiment with humor was a success. The cast was amazing, visual effects were awesome and the direction……well what would you expect from Ridley.  Some of his biggest hits are Gladiator, Blade Runner, Alien, Prometheus etc. I believe most of you have already seen the movie by now but if you haven’t, don’t waste this weekend.

Oscar Verdict- Remember Gravity??  Last year Gravity dominated the Oscars. Personally I prefer The Martian over Gravity and I think The Martian has a better chance at the Best Picture than Gravity had.

IMDb-“During a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. With only meager supplies, he must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive.”
