Adaptation

Another masterpiece from Charlie Kaufman!!

Charlie Kaufman has written the screenplays for movies like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Being John Malkovich etc. and is regarded as one of the finest screenwriters of the century. His EVERY movie is worth a watch. He is the Tarantino of the screenwriters 😛

The story behind the movie is that Kaufman was trying to adapt ‘The Orchid Thief’ by Susan Orlean for the screen. Failing to find a way of portraying the book, he came up with the screenplay for this movie. The movie tells a story of a screenwriter struggling to adapt a book. The screenwriter in the movie is the depiction of Kaufman himself. The movie was a departure from the usual way of adapting a book into a movie. For me, the idea of a screenwriter introducing himself in the script of an adaptation was most astonishing.

This movie is a must for anyone who aspires to be a writer. And you should also check out his other movies too, especially Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Being John Malkovich.

IMDb-“A lovelorn screenwriter becomes desperate as he tries and fails to adapt ‘The Orchid Thief’ by Susan Orlean for the screen.”
