Ip Man Trilogy

When I started writing this post, I thought that I can draw a parallel between the Rocky series and this one. But soon I realized that this would be a disgrace to this series. Not that the Rocky series is a bad one, but this isn’t like any other sports drama movies. Instead I’ll contrast this one with the Rocky series.  Where Rocky series remains focused on an individual, the Ip Man series involves the participation of neighbourhood as a whole. Ip Man is still the focus of the movie but his role is more of a leader of some phenomenon taking place in the neighbourhood.

As for me, Boxing and Kung Fu stimulate different kind of feelings/emotions; Boxing is associated with the thrill (of dropping punches and dodging them), whereas Kung Fu is associated with elegance, calm, speed and balance. One thing that adds a little more depth(at least for me) in the movie is that it is biographical in nature. The direction and cinematography are also pretty good. It is a must watch series. If you liked Rocky series, then you’ll love this one.

P.S For those of you who might be unaware, Yip Man was the Bruce Lee’s teacher!!

IMDb-“During the Japanese invasion of 1937, when a wealthy martial artist is forced to leave his home and work to support his family, he reluctantly agrees to train others in the art of Wing Chun for self-defense.”
