Hell or High Water

This movie is a perfect example of how a great screenplay can take a fairly simple story and turn it into something beautiful. The story remains straightforward throughout, no revelations,no twists, nothing… yet somehow it manages to keep you engaged.

The most balanced movie of the year yet. Everything works together in total harmony, there is no overpowering element….be it direction, music score, acting, cinematography or screenplay. Whereas most of the heist movies use guns and cars to keep the viewers engaged, here the only tool was acting, backed by a great screenplay and equally great direction.

The movie isn’t too emotionally engaging but the story is still gripping. The movie remains light throughout, thanks to some humor. The music score perfectly fits into the movie. As I said earlier, this is the most balanced movie of the year yet and it reminds of Spotlight last year. And I’m pretty sure this will earn it a nomination for the Best Picture and Best Screenplay atleast.

IMDb-“A divorced father and his ex-con older brother resort to a desperate scheme in order to save their family’s ranch in West Texas.”
