Upstream Color

It was beautiful….. it was mesmerising…..and it was meticulous. Looks like an exaggeration, doesn’t it. How can a movie be so good and yet be not known to many?? Movies like these are a perfect example to why you should never judge a movie based on IMDb ratings.

Abstract movies (like The Fountain, The Tree of Life etc..) often leave the audience in a state of confusion. They have to figure out, what the movie means to them. But that’s the beauty of those films, isn’t it? It can mean anything to anyone. But this movie isn’t like that. All you need is a little patience and everything just falls in place towards the end. And your heart skips a beat when that happens.

It was Shane Carruth all over the place; direction, cinematography, screenplay, acting and even the music score. The cinematography was just amazing. It was the meticulousness of the movie that made it visually stunning and not the abstractness of it. When you have the same guy as the screenwriter, the director and the actor, the clarity just shows. But you need to have the patience to cruise through the movie to appreciate it.

There might be times when you feel like quitting, but stay……..and you’ll be rewarded.

IMDb-“A man and woman are drawn together, entangled in the life cycle of an ageless organism. Identity becomes an illusion as they struggle to assemble the loose fragments of wrecked lives.”
