Someone please give Michelle Williams an Oscar!!
Michelle Williams and Ryan Gosling come together to give us a powerful and heart wrenching romantic drama. They would go on to give another great performance the next year in Drive (which some of you might have seen). They are just……….perfect!!
The movie stays away from the typical and cliched presentation of an everyday phenomenon. It is unlike any other romantic drama; it is as intense as it gets. Obviously, there are moments of light humour and you do see some happy faces, but that’s a rare occurrence in the movie. What’s more interesting is that these scenes are juxtaposed with the ones depicting the grim condition of their relationship…….thumbs up to the director and the screenplay team.
I don’t think I’ve seen any other romantic drama with such a perfect combination of intensity and tragedy. This will, in no way, make you feel any good. So if you’re looking for something to cheer you up, please avoid it. But, if you can appreciate some great acting and direction, go for it!!
IMDb-“The relationship of a contemporary married couple, charting their evolution over a span of years by cross-cutting between time periods.”
