Deepwater Horizon

This is a movie that everyone should watch…..not for any of its cinematic aspects but for the message it has to offer. Though not exactly a documentary, it does raise some important questions.

The famous economist Milton Friedman argued in his famous article that the sole responsibility of a corporation is to churn out profits. It is an interesting article for a discussion but I don’t stand with him. I think that these corporations have a responsibility towards the society which includes its workers, nearby residents, environment… etc. This movie exposes how corporations continue to be negligent towards the well being of their employees……and this is just a glimpse….. it is universal.

Now, coming to the cinematic aspects of the movie, the one thing that I really liked were the visual effects. They made the movie watching experience much more immersive. Everything else was decent, nothing I could complain about. The overall movie was energetic and crisp. It was better than any average action movie. There were no non-sense action sequences, everything was to-the-point. I think it successfully delivered the message and information that it strived to.

I think this movie deserves a watch by everyone. It is not very long, it isn’t a sentimental drama…’s just a very well carved out documentary which isn’t boring 😛

Happy Watching!!

IMDb-“A dramatization of the April 2010 disaster, when the offshore drilling rig Deepwater Horizon exploded and created the worst oil spill in U.S. history.”
