Song to Song

Now when it comes to Terrence Malick movies I don’t know what to feel. I surely don’t love the feeling I get when I watch them but I’m still addicted to it, I just can’t get enough of it. It’s something that he replicates in almost all his movies. It gets you engrossed, keeps you hooked…..only Malick can replicate that each and every time. I guess it arises predominantly due to camera motion and the shifting focus.

What stands out in Malick movies is their screenplay, it’s peculiar yet interesting. It keeps you engrossed, never lets you fully guess the situation yet doesn’t presents itself as a twist. It plays with the fragile concept of time and space which, I admit….. it does make it a little difficult to comprehend…..but that’s the beauty of it, isn’t it. What’s the fun in a typical movie which doesn’t get your mind(or heart) racing. And it just doesn’t end there… and cinematography are no average. Ha! You just cannot have an average cinematography when you have Emmanuel Lubezki on board, it’s just impossible. Not to forget the ensemble cast of Ryan Gosling, Michael Fassbender, Rooney Mara and Natalie Portman…..they were amazing.

It’s really a great movie irrespective of whatever score it has on either IMDb or RottenTomatoes. Having said that, Malick movies are not for everyone. But I think everyone should try them at least once.

IMDb-“Two intersecting love triangles. Obsession and betrayal set against the music scene in Austin, Texas.”
