High Fidelity

Poignant!!

“A comedy about fear of commitment, hating your job, falling in love and other pop favourites.” That’s what the poster says……in some ways it’s appropriate.

To be completely honest, I don’t have any experience when it comes to relationships. I won’t say that it’s depiction was pragmatic but it seemed to convey everything that it wanted to. But once again, I leave that judgement to you.

I found the overall mood to be a little more grim than I had expected from a ‘comedy, drama, romantic’ (IMDb) movie. There are pieces of humour scattered throughout, but they fail to overcome the grim nature of the story. Thus, the overall tone of the movie isn’t that positive.

This movie has an adapted screenplay from the novel of the same name by Nick Hornby. Although I haven’t read the book, but the screenplay looked good. For me, it was the music that held the movie together. The scenes in the record store provide the much needed departure when things get too serious. Jack Black was his usual, and so was John Cusack, acting was good enough……no complaints in that department.

If not for anything, watch this movie for its music. If you love movies about relationships, you might love this one……and it’s not that typical love story…..it takes a different route. Most probably, you’ll like it.

Happy Watching!!

IMDb-“Rob, a record store owner and compulsive list maker, recounts his top five breakups, including the one in progress.”
